A long-time friend of Martha's, Becky, visited her today. Martha stayed with Becky when she was first moving back to Rochester, so you may have heard Martha mention her name. They've been friends since grade school.
I read Linda's note and realized that maybe not everyone has the address for the hospital:
Strong Memorial Hospital
601 Elmwood Avenue
Rochester, NY 14642
As Linda said, Martha is in Room 328-1, and her birthday is Jan. 14. <-- Note that I didn't mention the year. I'd really be in trouble. ;-)
We heard today that Chloe expects to leave Asheville in 4 to 5 weeks. It will be good to see her happy face more often.
When he isn't at the hospital or driving back and forth, Dave's wrestling with paperwork.
And this from Bronte: A little bit harder today to see Mom. The blood on her neck, and the way that the tube shakes when she breathes kinda sets me on edge a little bit. But it was good to see Mom's old time friend, Becky.
Thanks, everyone, for the positive thinking. We appreciate it.

I was really glad to see Martha yesterday! I was with her for a couple of hours in the morning, before the docs did the tacheostomy, food line, and put in the filters. She was pretty uncomfortable with the vent tube down her throat. When I came back in the afternoon, she did seem more comfortable breathing, as she came out of the anesthesia. Martha reacted strongly to both Dave and Bronte, even stroking Bronte's face when Bronte leaned down next to her mom's hand. When the Nurse opened Martha's eyes to check her pupils, I was standing in Martha's line of vision and she squeezed my hand really hard when I talked to her. (Yippee!!)
ReplyDeleteIt was so good to see Dave, Bronte, and Linda yesterday. I also got a chance to meet Jim and Allison.............great to connect faces with the names I've heard over the years.
Keep sending prayers and healing energy to Martha. I was able to do quite a bit of Reiki with her in the morning. It seemed to help her relax.
Hugs and Kisses to Martha and all.
Becky
I do not know Martha personally, I heard about through a freind of hers. The reason I am writing this is to tell the family and freinds not to take what the doctors say to heart. I am also a stroke victim who had a severe stroke in 1995. Through the grace of God and the super support of my friends and family I went from what they (doctors) say was a vegetable to walking a 26.2 mile marthon, receiving a bachelor degree and getting married and able to care for my family. It was not an easy road my any means. But if I would have listen to the doctors I would not be where I am today. I only have use of one arm and where a brace on right leg. I have a severe limp. But what matters is that I am alive and living life to its fullest. If anybody needs to talk I will be more than happy too. Every stroke is different and every stroke victim responds differently but I know if I did not have God, family and freinds there supporting me I would not be where I am today. My email is piercerlm@gmail.com. Please dont feel you have to but if you want to talk I am there for you. I will keep her in my prayers. God Bless

Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteThis is Martha's younger brother, Bob. I have an idea that I am working on...If Linda could post this as a main item instead of a comment that would be great.
So here is my idea...I would like to get as many friends and family photos as I can gathered electronically so I can put them in a digital frame to display. I am sure Martha would love to see our shining faces that she knows well and loves! The pictures can be new from the holidays or older ones that I am sure she would get a kick out of. My Google account should be able to handle all of the attachments...or better yet...if you do have ALOT...burn them to CD or flash drive and send me the CD so I can transfer them to the SD or flash drive that the frame might take. I haven't bought the frame yet so I don't know what it will take. Of course, I can I get all the Peyton Manning pictures I can off of the Internet. Plus we might have a few from the Rochester Press Radio dinner lurking around...
So my email address is xreynoldsx@gmail.com and I look forward to questions and comments if you have any. Thanks everyone for being here!
