An inspiring Thursday visit!

What pleasant surprise to visit Martha today.

The last time I saw her, about three weeks ago, she was dazed and mostly unresponsive. I doubt that she recognized me.

This time she was sitting in a chair, smiling and looking around her hospital room. She knew me, with a little prompting from Jim Fogler, and we spent about 20 minutes chatting about the Super Bowl and all the snow that we are NOT getting in Rochester.

Her therapist came to take her to the afternoon session. We accompanied her as she rolled her wheelchair to the elevators. An amazing accomplishment.

Martha DeShong is a strong woman and an inspiration.

  1. I was also inspired by our visit today! From the moment we walked in Martha's room, she just lit up when she saw us! I'm guessing she was really happy to see familiar faces. While Martha was enjoying the Flynn and Fogler show, her physical therapist came in the room and said, time to go, and in Martha fashion, she just rolled her eyes back and I can only imagine what she was thinking (here we f** go again!) So you know they're still working her pretty hard. A good thing!!! She's still struggling and getting frustrated putting sentences together, but I did notice an improvement from my last visit. As Tom mentioned, she accompanied us out by wheeling herself to the elevators. Truly amazing progess!

Keep your positive thoughts and prayers coming!
