From Bronte:Dad says Mom was VERY responsive tonight. They put her on her blood pressure medicine and with in the hour, she's watching TV! :D

From Linda: Moved Martha's stuff to her new room. Put it all in the drawer. She is on the 5th floor suite 3600 bed 4. Come into the suite at the front desk turn left and you will see her. Much smaller space than she had in ICU. The nurse says she definitely works at trying to get her hand untied during the night and is occasionally successful or she figures out how to get to the tubes in her nose. so she can figure out a problem she has. She just isn't good with figuring out what we are saying. Well she will get a workout in her new area.

martha has moved

Martha perked up this evening. David called to say she is watching tv and is the most alert she has been all day.... yeah! Also they are packing things up and she is moving to the 5th floor and I believe 3600. He said across the hall from where she was but on the 5th floor. You can always check at the desk. Happy new years all!!

New Years Eve

Melody , mom, and I went up to see Martha today. She was sitting in a chair. she really slept most of the time and was not interested in interacting with us. She was however determined to pull out her feeding tube and oxygen line. I would be pulling at them too. Martha's care has now been changed over from a cardiologist to a neurologist. The neurologist spend some time with us explaining some of the possible reasons for her condition and he was happy to have Martha"s mom to talk to about her growing up and family history. There really isn't a definitive reason for what happened and really the focus now will be on rehabilitation. After the weekend Martha will be taken to a stroke rehab area. The Neurologist told us that there is still some bleeding and swelling of her brain so some days would be good and some not so good. That now we need to look at how things are progressing over a week rather than from day to day. Thank you for all of the prayers and good thoughts and keep them coming.

December 30th update

We are beginning to put together schedules with friends so that someone is with Martha most of the day and Dave (her husband) has time to rest and tend to other things. The Physical Therapist explained that Martha's brain is unable to tell her right arm and leg to relax. She showed us how to exercise her arm and leg to help relax the muscles and to keep the muscles moving so that when she is able to move them they will be able to work. Martha is able to answer question by shaking her head for yes and no. However, when asked to raise her left hand and put up 2 fingers she can raise her hand but it was a fist. So the message is is not getting through even though she looks like she is trying to do what she is asked to do. We watched tv today. Kept the TV on the food network. Little by little the therapists and Dr.s are trying to find out just how much damage has been done.
Her heart Dr said today she will probably be in ICU for maybe 1 more day and then she would be moved to the neurological rehab area in the hospital.

12/29 update

Saw Martha tonight. She seems to respond to conversation and smile when I joked with her. All those prayers and positive thoughts seem to be working.....She has her family all around and She is a fighter... all things in her favor. Her sister Micki came in from Indiana in a snow storm to see her. Martha's mom who lives in Albion is now living at our house so it is easier for her to get in to see Martha.

For those of you that Know Martha. She had a serious stroke last. night at around 9pm. Much of the damage was to the left side of her brain. The stroke is affecting the arm and leg on the right side and she is not able to speak. The family will need lots of love and support for a long time. anyone who needs information can call my cell if you have it or leave an a post and I will contact you.
